Tourmalines are precious stones displaying a unique splendor of colors. Tourmaline is actually a group of several different minerals, which have similar crystal structures, but complex and variable chemical formulas. Tourmalines are abundant, complex boron and aluminum silicate minerals of variable composition.
The name "Tourmaline" was derived from the Singhalese expression "tura mali", and translates as "stone of mixed colors." Tourmaline comes in a wide range of colors, depending on its mineral composition; no Tourmaline exactly resembles another one. Often they show two or more colors and are cherished for this multi-colored appearance. Ever since ancient days it has been attributed with magical powers. Tourmaline is supposed to be an especially powerful influence on love and friendship, lending them permanence and stability.
